Interview with Iris from *The Wild Thirteen*

In this interview, designer Iris Schmid tells us about the story behind the brand, how the collaboration with Petite Année came about, and what she considers to be the most beautiful gifts.

Iris, tell us a little about yourself...

I live in Zurich with my husband, our two sons and our dog. Although I was not particularly talented in sewing and crafts at school, sewing, knitting and crocheting have now become my great passion. My original profession is chef.

What does the die wilde Dreizehn collection include?

With great passion, die wilde Dreizehn creates beautiful and practical products for babies. From music boxes featuring slightly unusual melodies to crinkle cloths, pacifier dragons, teething rings and pacifier chains. However, the collection is not set in stone and is constantly evolving.

Which three words best describe die wilde Dreizehn?

It is difficult to describe it in only three words. I would say: quality, passion and great attention to detail.

How did the collaboration between die wilde Dreizehn and Petite Année begin?

Bettina, the buyer at Petite Année, discovered me on Instagram. She liked my products and asked whether I would like to create something for Petite Année. I was immediately excited about the idea.

What connects Petite Année and die wilde Dreizehn? What do the two companies have in common?

Both brands stand for high-quality and beautiful baby products.

Which die wilde Dreizehn products can be found at Petite Année?

At the moment, these include music boxes, crinkle cloths, health record covers and pacifier chains.

Sustainability and fair trade are major topics, especially in the textile industry. What is your perspective on this? How does it influence your products?

All of my fabrics and materials meet at least the Oeko-Tex standard. Fortunately, the range of organic fabrics continues to grow, allowing me to work with them more frequently. In addition, all products are handmade in Switzerland, which keeps transport routes short and ensures fair working conditions.

In your opinion, what is the best gift for a newborn baby?

The best gift is one that evokes emotions and brings joy to the person giving it.
