Frequently Asked Questions
Do babies need a comforter?
A comforter is not just an ordinary piece of fabric. Rather, it is a special security object that simply means “comfort” to your child.
Your baby will turn to it in the middle of the night when they wake up – which happens often! That is why a comforter is your secret weapon for successful sleep: when a baby feels secure with their comforter, they will not cry and need Mum or Dad to help them fall back asleep. Instead, they will find their beloved comforter, cuddle it, smell it, rub it against their face and even suck on it. And then: fall asleep again!
We recommend the personalised version. Soft, hygienic and embroidered with the baby’s name, it becomes a wonderful keepsake.
Should babies be covered at night?
Overheating can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Babies can overheat if they have too much bedding or clothing, or if the room is too hot.
If your baby is sweating or their tummy feels hot, remove some of the bedding. Do not worry if their hands or feet feel cool – this is normal. It is easier to regulate the temperature when you use several layers of light (!) blankets.
Babies do not need warm rooms. Keep the room at a comfortable temperature – ideally between 16 and 20 °C. If it is very warm, your baby only needs a sheet and no additional bedding. Babies lose excess heat through their head. Therefore, make sure their head is not covered by bedding, slings or baby carriers while sleeping. With well-crafted baby blankets, you are on the safe side.
Which fabric is best for baby clothing?
Having a baby is one of the most important moments in your life and changes everything. The mere presence and sight of those adorable little faces can bring endless joy and love.
But raising a baby is another story – one full of challenges and stress.
You need to make sure your precious little one is warm, safe and comfortable.
This means they need clothing, blankets, towels and other accessories. But a baby’s skin is sensitive, and not all fabrics are suitable for it.
So what types of fabrics should you look for when buying baby clothing and accessories?
Make sure that freedom from harmful substances is guaranteed, for example through the GOTS label (GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD), and that the clothing is produced according to ecological principles.
We do not only sell products made from organic cotton, but also items from a small workshop – short transport routes and local production.
What is the best way to wash cuddly toys?
- Place the plush toy in a laundry bag, a zipped pillowcase or a pillowcase with the ends tied shut to give it extra protection against wear.
- Select the gentle wash cycle
- We recommend using the delicate, hand wash or gentle cycle on your washing machine as well as cold water to prevent the colours from fading.
- Add detergent: To wash stuffed animals, you can use your regular detergent or a mild detergent if you have one available.
- Air dry: Remove the stuffed animals from the mesh bag or pillowcase and hang them up or lay them flat to dry.
Of course, the soft toys from Love Kids are easy to care for and, with proper care, will remain loyal companions for years.
How many nappies do you need for a nappy cake?
Nappy cakes are very popular at baby showers because they serve both as a practical gift and as table decoration.
You can buy wonderful nappy cakes directly here (enhanced with truly beautiful, personalised baby items!), but it is also possible to make them yourself.
How much material you need for a nappy cake depends on how large the cake should be and how much money you want to spend on the project. Most nappy cakes require around 50 to 75 nappies for newborns or size 1 nappies.
You should always make sure to use particularly tested nappies that are free from harmful substances.
For our nappy cakes, we use Swiss “Pingo eco” nappies, which are especially high-quality, ecological nappies.
What are the best gifts for a newborn?
Useful gifts are always appropriate. A useful item is not only a gift that the new parents of the newborn will greatly appreciate, it also supports them in their new role.
Gift vouchers are always a good option.
Apart from traditional vouchers, you can of course also be creative. Small helpful items or gifts related to breastfeeding are good gift ideas.
A true evergreen among gifts is toys. However, caution is needed here! A loud toy might irritate the parents. Think practically here too! A music box is a wonderful idea: bringing calm into everyday baby life through play – something parents will truly appreciate. If the music box is also embroidered with the child’s name, you have found a perfect gift!
How much should you spend on a baby gift?
A baby party or baby shower is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the joy of the upcoming arrival. The question is: How much should I spend on a baby shower gift?
Although everyone has their own budget and circumstances, there are average amounts that you can use as a guide to see how you compare with others.
The average amount spent on a baby shower gift is usually between CHF 40 and CHF 100.
The range of average values is explained by the different levels of closeness to the mother-to-be: close relatives and close friends will usually spend a little more, while colleagues and distant friends or relatives will usually spend a little less.
What do you give a child for their christening?
A christening is not only a special moment in a baby’s life, but also meaningful for parents and caregivers. Friends and family can celebrate the occasion with a thoughtful gift that can be cherished for a lifetime. From personalised items to keepsake boxes – a gift tailored to the baby and the family is always appreciated and makes the present truly special.
When choosing a gift for a baby’s christening, consider how meaningful and useful the item is, and whether it can be personalised for the child.
This creates a timeless gift that honours the joy of the christening day. With our christening gift ideas, we have carefully considered design, personalisation options, sentimental value and usefulness.
What can you give before the birth?
Some people are unsure what to give for a baby shower and are grateful for any guidance. While it is practical and time-saving for both the parents-to-be and the guests to register for gifts in a shop or online, many people feel that a gift list takes away some of the charm of a baby shower.
If hosts and recipients decide to use a gift list, they should never include the information about the list directly on the invitation, although it is fine to enclose it on a separate sheet. The host should also not insist that guests use the list.
Guests should always feel free to choose the gifts they think are best, and half the fun of giving and receiving gifts is the element of surprise.
Choosing gifts for the baby shower
Baby clothing and bedding are the most common gifts, followed by plush toys, mobiles and care products for bathing.
Sometimes a group contributes together to buy a larger gift, such as a pram or a car seat. Relatives often choose a keepsake, such as a silver frame or cup engraved with the baby’s name and date of birth, a silver rattle, a baby bracelet or a baby album.
