A Misleading Image of Grandparents

Let’s get one thing straight from the start: the image many people have of grandparents – white-haired, wrinkled, frail, slow-moving and old-fashioned – usually no longer reflects reality. Not because today’s grandparents are younger than previous generations; in fact, they are often older on average. But the old-fashioned stereotype simply doesn’t fit anymore. Today’s grandparents are active, financially secure and fully engaged in life.

What has remained unchanged, of course, is the joy of having grandchildren. Grandparents can lovingly spoil their little treasures without the pressure of parenting and commit all the “mistakes” they once criticised in their own parents when raising their children ;)

And even though grandparents today are very different from what they were a few decades ago, a little nostalgia is still perfectly acceptable for a grandpa.
